Effects of Glucosyl Hesperidin on Serum Triglyceride and its Safety in Beverage

We evaluated the effect of glucosyl hesperidin-containing beverage on serum triglyceride level in the case of long-term ingestion and the safety in the case of excessive ingestion. As long-term ingestion trial, a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study for 12 weeks was conducted. The test beverage(500 mL/bottle)contained 340 mg monoglucosyl hesperidin. The total 112 healthy adults with serum triglyceride level of 120-200 mg/dL were divided into two groups:the test group and the placebo group. Each subject in the test group was given 1 bottle of the test drink per day(monoglucosyl hesperidin 340 mg/day)for 12 weeks. On the other hand, each subject in the placebo group was given 1 bottle of the placebo drink per day. 99 subjects(47 males and 52 females)had finished the trial. In the test group, serum triglyceride levels were reduced significantly at 4 weeks(p<0.01), 8 weeks(p<0.05), 12 weeks(p<0.01)as compared with the placebo group. And no adverse effects were found in physiological, biochemical parameters and medical interviews throughout this trial. On excessive ingestion trial, the test beverage(500 mL/bottle)contained 1030 mg monoglucosyl hesperidin. The total 44 healthy adults were given 1 bottle of the drink per day(monoglucosyl hesperidin 1030 mg/day)for 4 weeks. 34 subjects(17 males and 17 females)had finished the trial. No adverse effects were found in physiological, biochemical parameters and medical interviews throughout this trial. These results suggested that intake of the glucosyl hesperidin-containing beverage(monoglucosyl hesperidin 340 mg/bottle)decreased serum triglyceride level in the healthy adults(serum triglyceride level 120-200 mg/dL), and that the glucosyl hesperidin-containing beverage is safe in long term and excessive ingestion.
